Watch the flat-rate rules, because they’re where the money is. Austin North charges $14.99 for anything over 10 pounds, so bikes and mirrors are cheaper than the scale suggests. Houston G3 prices books at 50 cents or three for a dollar.

Dallas uses a bulk discount instead. Cross 25 pounds and the rate drops enough to bring it in line with the cheaper outlets.

Rules Change By City

San Antonio is the strict one. Gloves are required to enter and children under 15 are not admitted. Both rules are posted at the door and both are enforced.

Dallas allows children but doesn’t allow carts on the shop floor, so bring a stroller if you’re shopping with small kids.

Austin South is the most relaxed and also the most chaotic, with the biggest crowds of any Texas outlet.

Northwest Houston, out towards Cypress. Open 8AM to 9PM every day, the longest hours of any Texas outlet.

No climate control. Reviewers describe it as cold in January and punishing in summer, so pick your month and your hour.

TVs, furniture and books are priced separately rather than weighed. Heavier electronics can work out dearer here than at a regular Goodwill, so do the maths on anything with weight to it.

San Antonio’s outlet, and the strictest in Texas. Gloves are required and children under 15 are not allowed in. Both are signposted at the door.

They hand gloves out if you turn up without them. The rules exist because of broken glass and sharps in the bins, and staff don’t bend on them.
